The Egyptians knew of no other lands until they used the Nile for a trade route. 

The Egyptians depended on the Nile River for almost everything. Transportation, water, and a trade route were only a few of the things that they used the Nile for. Every year the Nile flooded and that was good because it provided farmland! The mountains, deserts, and lakes provided protection from other societies.
